Avo is the name of a cigar brand that has been named after and by the famous jazz musician and composer Avo Uvezian. This man traveled to many parts of the world throughout his musical career and he is known for composing Frank Sinatra's1966 hit Strangers in the Night which won three Grammy awards in 1967. But what most people don't know about him is that he is also a true lover of fine tobacco.

Back in the year 1983 when his daughter was born and he had gone to Switzerland for her christening, on one fateful evening (for himself and cigar smokers around the globe), he sat down to smoke some Cuban cigars after his meal and he was utterly annoyed to find out that he was being charged over twenty dollars per cigar. Acting spontaneously on a friend's suggestion to make their own cigars, Avo entered the cigar industry. He knew the key players and had the right connections in the industry which enabled him to sell over 750,000 cigars when his company was just three years old. He later worked out a deal with Davidoff to distribute his cigars globally and the rest is history.
