Fuente created the blend, using high-octane Dominican filler to complement the Ecuadoran wrapper. Fuente is a strong-cigar specialist, having blended his trademark Fuente Fuente OpusX as well as the Ashton Virgin Sun Grown. The wrappers on the Maximus come from the Bajo region of Oliva Tobacco Co.'s Ecuador farm, which sits at the foot of a valley near the River Macul. It is dark but it's not a maduro -- the leaf is culled from the top of the tobacco plants, leaves known as the corona, and the wrapper accounts for much of the cigar's full flavor.
